You Should Go | Torpedo Factory

Torpedo Factory | Old Town, Alexandria, VA

I mentioned the Torpedo Factory before in this post. It's where I participated in the March Madness Art Show BUT you only got to see the Target Gallery portion, which is one of six galleries in the building. The Torpedo Factory is literally a whole factory of art, jewelry, sculptures, accessories, and then some. It's three floors full of artisanal goods from over 165 artists working in 82 studios. These studios are open to the public so you get to speak with artists and even watch them create their masterpieces! It's really cool, especially if you're struggling with a technique yourself or just want some advice from a more experienced artist. They also sell their pieces and there's a lot of cool stuff in there. I didn't really check the price tags however, so I can't give you any figures lol.

In addition, they also have many events throughout the year. If this is your kind of thing, you can stay up to date by checking out their website here and join their email list. They also provide a number of classes in the fine arts and crafts through their school, The Art League. I have taken a class here for oil and acrylic painting which I enjoyed. The prices aren’t that bad, in my opinion, but I don’t really have a point of reference.

Here are some pics of the factory...

Not only is the Torpedo Factory itself cool, the surrounding area has much to offer as well. Right around the corner, behind the building, they have a boardwalk area. You can dine at Chart House, chill by the water, take a stroll, or take a ride on the Potomac Riverboat. I believe it takes you across the water to the National Harbor. Starting March 24th, the Potomac Riverboat Company will be giving 50-minute cruises around the George Washington Harbour and you’ll be able to enjoy the cherry blossoms by water. It’s $15 for adult and $8 for kids. You have to catch this one in Georgetown. For more info, check out their website.

The sun wasn't out today, so these pictures look a little dreary, but it's beautiful out there.

The back of Torpedo Factory.
I have yet to explore all the shops and boutiques nearby, but King Street has PLENTY to offer. King Street is literally like 30 steps from the front door of Torpedo Factory. This is where one of my friends would make a tall joke lol. They have sports bars, jewelry boutiques, clothing boutiques, vintage shops, antique shops, shoe stores, fine art & custom framing, art galleries, unique accessories and paper goods, restaurants, old fashioned ice cream shops, *takes deep breath*…just go see it for yourself if you’re in the area. You won’t be sorry!
