The Heidelberg Project is an AMAZING outdoor art project located in the forgotten neighborhoods of Detroit, Michigan. Tyree Guyton, founder and artistic director, sought out to inspire change, foster hope, and create a forum for ideas to make a better future. This project is all about using art to heal communities and it is in its 25th year!!
According
to their “what we do” statement, “The focus of the Heidelberg Project (HP) is
rooted in the need to improve the under-resources and horribly blighted Detroit
community where the project was founded.” They educate the neighborhood children
on art, community and environment through art and education programs and
hands-on workshops building their self-esteem and instilling in them a sense of
pride in their community.
Not all
people were or are happy with the curb appeal this project brings but I think
this is awesome. Would you rather look at an abandoned, dilapidated area or
bright, energetic, inspiring artwork?!! They have my support!!:)
Here is
a video explaining the project…
Here are some pics of the neighborhoods they have transformed…
